The Maybank Art Collection Exhibition (MACE) marks the first time Maybank is presenting selected artworks from its collection to the public.
Over several decades, Maybank has built an art collection through works that were acquired and gifted to the Bank. Many of these artworks have long been part of Maybank’s offices and public spaces, encountered in everyday settings rather than in a gallery context. MACE brings these works together in a curated exhibition, allowing them to be viewed, experienced, and engaged with more intentionally.
The exhibition reflects Maybank’s role as a custodian of these artworks. In opening the collection to the public, MACE aims to make the works more accessible while respecting the artists, the integrity of the artworks, and the broader cultural landscape they belong to.
Exhibition Structure
The inaugural MACE will run over nine weeks and is presented in three curatorial cycles, featuring a total of 90 artworks. Each cycle introduces a refreshed selection of works from the collection, offering visitors different perspectives and encouraging repeat visits over the exhibition period.
The rotating format allows a wider range of artworks to be shown while creating space for reflection on how artistic expression has evolved across time, mediums, and contexts.
Purpose and Approach
Guided by the theme “Held in Time, Built on Trust”, the exhibition reflects the care involved in holding and stewarding a collection built gradually over many years. The theme speaks to time as continuity, and to trust as responsibility rather than ownership.
MACE is not positioned as a one-off exhibition. It marks the beginning of a longer platform through which Maybank Foundation hopes to continue sharing the collection through different curatorial approaches, educational engagement, and public access over time.
Through the Balai Seni Art Series Programme (BSAS), Maybank Foundation supports initiatives that strengthen creative ecosystems and broaden access to the arts. MACE is an extension of this commitment, expressed through the stewardship and sharing of the Maybank Art Collection.
