Kuala Lumpur World International Deaf Artist Exhibition

Maybank Foundation launches the first ever art exhibition featuring deaf artists from around the world

Maybank Foundation, the CR arm of the Maybank Group today launched the inaugural Kuala Lumpur World International Deaf Artist Exhibition at Balai Seni Maybank in Kuala Lumpur. Themed “Rhythm of a Thousand Colours” the art exhibition features the works of 18 talented deaf artists from Korea, Vietnam, India, France, Italy, Russia and Malaysia.

A total of 30 artworks are being displayed, portraying the life, culture and tradition of the people and sceneries from various countries. Staying true to its theme “Rhythm of a Thousand Colours”, the exhibition specifically highlighting oil paintings, beautifully showcases colours of the world and people of different cultures and backgrounds coming together.

CEO of Maybank Foundation, Shahril Azuar Jimin said that the exhibition marks the Group’s ongoing social mission to support and acknowledge the growing art scene of the world as well as providing a platform for the talented deaf artists to express their works of art.

“The Kuala Lumpur World International Deaf Artist Exhibition marks yet another milestone in celebrating talents across borders. The line-up of international and local artists present this year demonstrates their story of courage and further affirms that true hardwork and passion can lead to success regardless of their background or physical limitation,” said Shahril.

Kim Bong Jin, Kim Kyo-Saeng, Park Yang-Sua and Park In-Hee (Korea), Ponticelli Gennaro (Italy), Oleg Smotrov (France), Sergei Ushchenko (Russia), Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy and Nguyen Thi My Duyen (Vietnam), and Prasad Prasanna Kumar (India) are among the international artists gracing the art exhibition. Malaysia is being represented by two well-known deaf artists - Zulaiha Bt Zulkapli from Perak and Peter Lau Yok Ung from Sarawak.

All of the artworks displayed are up for sale with a price range of RM650 to RM10,000 per piece. In addition to the creation of the beautiful artworks, the artists will be contributing 20% of the proceeds from the sales of the artwork to selected charitable organisations under Maybank Foundation.

The art exhibition will be open to the public from 10am to 5pm (Monday to Friday) until 28 September 2018. Admission to Balai Seni Maybank which is on the first floor of Menara Maybank is free.

Balai Seni Maybank has been actively hosting Malaysian and international artists since its establishment in the 1980’s. Some of the biggest names in the local art scene today have, in the past, exhibited their artworks at Balai Seni Maybank which continues to support the new generation of visual arts practitioners.

Maybank Foundation, which was established in 2010, actively supports community programmes under six key pillars namely Arts & Culture, Education, Community Empowerment, Environmental Diversity, Healthy Living and Disaster Relief.
