Jiwa Hamba

Termenung seketika sunyi sejenak

Kosong di jiwa tiada penghuni

Hidup terasa diperbudak-budak

Hanya suara melambung tinggi

Berpusing roda beralihlah masa

Pelbagai neka hidup di bumi

Selagi hidup berjiwa hamba

Pasti tetap terjajah abadi

Kalau hidup ingin merdeka

Tiada tercapai hanya berkata

Ke muka maju sekata, maju kita

Melemparkan jauh jiwa hamba

Ingatkan kembali kata sakti

Dari bahang kesedaran berapi

Di atas robohan Kota Melaka

Kita dirikan jiwa merdeka

Merpati Putih, Jelajahilah dunia ini

Dalam keruncingan manusia bimbang curiga

terbanglah ia menjelajahi dunia

putih sayapnya melambai cinta damai

bersih bulunya mengibar panji hidup bersama

bunga-bunga mekar menguntum

bibir-bibir segar tersenyum

Siapa manusia yang tiada putus asa

hiruplah udara baru yang segar berkembang

isilah dunia ini dengan keyakinan perdamaian

hembuskan nafas pada malam yang lena

Siapa manusia yang pernah berkhianat

jadilah debu yang terbang mengakhiri hayat

duniamu tenggelam bersama patung-patung usang

Having good relations with our neighbours can brighten up our life with long term friendship, peacefulness and happiness.

We can build good relations with our neighbours through sincere sharing, listening and helping each other. We can create joyful and safe environments for our children to play and interact with each other. We should keep a lookout for our neighbours' property when they are away from home and even take care of their pets and plants. In the end, everyone can enjoy a healthy community that is collaboratively built on trust and respect.

In Malaysia, having good relations within a multicultural neighbourhood helps to further enhance the foundation of race relations and understanding. Living in a healthy neighbourhood gives us a sense of who we are, both as individuals and as members of society.

I created this game, based on the concept of the Snakes and Ladders game, to show how MyTIGER Values can be applied in teamwork.

Below are the explanations about the game-

S for 'Strategy'. Any type of work needs to have a strategy to make sure it stays on the right track. In a group work especially, the element of SUPPORT among members is the ultimate key to achieving the best results.

(The advantages of the letter 'S')

-- Strategy: A team must plan carefully before making a move.
-- Support: In a team, members need to help each other when solving problems.
-- In the end, everyone gets to learn something.
-- Success: To achieve success, one must overcome the obstacles.
In this game, they are the snake and the ladder.

(Weakness and Mistakes)

-- Ladder: A shortcut in avoiding workload. It does not follow the principles of T.I.G.E.R. It puts more work on other team members.
-- Snake: If one does not practice one of the T.I.G.E.R values, he or she may wreck the whole project, resulting in the need to restart the whole process.

‘ Si Perawan’ represents the purity of a subject; hence the name Perawan. Purity holds a different meaning to each individual. Purity could mean freedom from immorality or freedom from adulteration. It is also commonly associated with innocence.

For me, purity means the state of a person as he/she is, nothing more nothing less, just as he/she is, free from judgement and chaos. That is why I chose to portray a figure in solitude surrounded by nature.

Batik patterns and motifs in the frame around the figure refer to Malaysian tradition and culture as well as choice of clothing. The colour scheme is also deliberately chosen to be light and of earth tones to portray a calm and pure demeanour.

The illustration portrays the harmony and togetherness between the races and cultures of Malaysia. , written on the scroll means togetherness and unity. Its direct translation is, “A droplet cannot form an ocean, a single wood cannot form a forest.”
This artwork shows a Malay woman in an Indian saree, with a Chinese hairstyle and cosmetics, sitting in a state of serenity. The woman and the crescent moon and the star on the peaceful night sky form the Malaysian flag.

Humankind, since the dawn of civilisation or perhaps even earlier, has had a special kind of relationship with doves.

Doves, usually white in colour, are used in many settings as symbols of love and peace, or as messengers.

The birds, perhaps more than any other animals on the planet, live and interact with humans in all cities of the world. They are smart as they can recognise people who treat them kindly.

Through this illustration, I wish to convey the importance of cultivating the habit of saving money from young and its impact on relationship building and growth. The act of saving money can bring people closer towards achieving their individual and shared goals, be it in personal or professional life, between partners, within a family, or even as a nation. In my illustration here, I combine a money bank with a building structure. The structure houses different groups of people representing different segments of society. Each group has their own story that depicts the different phases of their lives. I also add the national flower on to the structure to suggest the positive impact that saving money can bring on a wider scale.

"The more money you save, the stronger relationships and growth you will gain."

Teamwork is an effort made by a group of people. In this artwork, each tiger figure, with its specific dress and musical instrument , depicts each of the five main ethnic groups in Malaysia, namely, the Malays, Chinese, Indians, Sarawakians and Sabahans. Gendang represents the Malays, xiao the Chinese, sitar the Indians, sompoton the Sabahans and sape the Sarawakians. The pattern on the dress worn by each tiger is also inspired by an ethnic culture. They are all different, but this does not hinder them from working together as a team. The artwork depicts the concept of teamwork in an imaginative way. When the team plays their instruments, the musical notes float down gently from the sky, then land and shine on the houses below. This shows how working together can give hope to people in their darkest days. As they continue playing throughout the night, more and more evergreen golden trumpets bloom continuously, thus signifying how the continuous efforts made by the different ethnic groups in Malaysia can help enrich the society and flourish their economy.

All of us are here today because of the people around us. Whether we realise it or not, we have impacted each other in many different ways. The family that has raised us, and the friends whom we have made in schools, work places and everywhere else in the world, have shaped who we are today. The various types of relationships that we have built with others have affected us in both small and significant ways.

All past, present and future relationships can take us to new heights as we keep learning from them during our lifetime. Let us be open to loving and growing with one other!

My artwork shows the fierce battle between our frontliners and the coronavirus. The SARS COVID-19 virus is like a demon persistently attacking us, and our frontliners are the angels defending the patients.

This artwork is an appreciation for the dedication of our frontliners, namely, the doctors, nurses, police, etc., who have been hard at work for us during this period.

The frontliners show their teamwork spirit, sense of responsibility and professionalism in carrying out their duties. Furthermore, the artwork also demonstrates the determination and courage of the frontliners in working together as a team to protect us from getting infected. Although some may get injured or feel tired, they still do their best to save lives.

Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much. I hope that we can go through this hard period together by cooperating with each other. Besides the teamwork spirit of the frontliners, we, as human beings, should also band our strengths together to rid ourselves of this most horrendous disease in the world.

Keep Fighting!

Furthermore, the artwork also shows the determination and courage of the frontliners in protecting us from getting infected by working together as a team. Although they get injured and feel tired, they still do their best to save lives.

Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much. I wish that we can go through this hard period together by cooperating with each other. Besides the teamwork spirit of the frontliners, as human beings, we should also bond our strengths together to kick out the intruder, a most horrendous disease in the world.

Keep Fighting!

I am a Malaysian, born and raised in this beautiful country.
Between colonial times and the independence, Malaysia faced many difficulties as our forefathers worked hard to bring freedom, peace and harmony to this land.
Today, Malaysia celebrates the 64th anniversary of her liberation.

Since 1957 until the present, many heroes have made great contributions to the country. Even as the nation is now being ravaged by the SARS COVID-19 pandemic, I am safely at home and well protected. This is due our Malaysian heroes at the frontlines who are working hard to serve and help those in need regardless of race or religion.

I am grateful to all of you, and proud that I am a part of you.

In light of Malaysia’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, I have decided to rework my previous illustration to reflect the struggles of our frontliners against this highly infectious and deadly disease.

The team of rowers are now comprised of medical and security personnels as well as volunteers who, through teamwork, must help Malaysia to ride out this tsunami of sickness and death. I have changed the colour of the turbulent ocean waves to icy blue with the crests now resembling ice spikes and the shape of the COVID-19 virus. This is to show the extreme danger and hardship that the country is currently facing, especially on the health, education and economic fronts.

Our frontliners’ fighting spirit and powerful will are represented by the tiger figurehead, still standing tall in front of their boat.

These heroes reflect the T.I.G.E.R values in their fight against the pandemic. It is because of them that our society, country and the world at large have become safer and full of love.

I understand that in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, many things cannot be solved by one person alone. We must face the pandemic together. Currently, my biggest responsibility is to STAY at home, and I should make efforts to cooperate and stop the spread of the deadly virus.
Thank you to all our frontliners, who are today’s unsung heroes. You are brave and are as irreplaceable as our Malayan Tigers.

Everything in this world is interdependent.

Like the flora and fauna or our institutions and community. The mighty TIGER needs the nurture from nature; a great company needs smart partners, workers and consumers. No one among us can succeed without the people who help us along the way, enhance our strengths and capabilities, give us hope, and support us when we fail.

Little do we realise that we are always dependent on the community’s support, but we often overlook them and take our successes for granted.

This artwork is to remind us to be grateful to those around us, and to emphasise how the wonderful relationship that we have with each other serves as the foundation behind the successes we have achieved today.

Every year we celebrate our country's independence from colonization. But this time it is different. Our current colonizers cannot be seen by the human eye, and they are extremely dangerous.

No matter who and what is holding us back, we have to unite in order to keep our country’s harmony.

The idea of ‘teamwork’ presented in this artwork is inspired by a famous print entitled “The Great Wave off Kanagawa” (1829-1832) by the great Japanese printmaker Hokusai (1760-1849).

My work shows a team of rowers who, if they are to reach their destination safely, must work together as a strong team to ride out the turbulent ocean waves, which are represented by the fierce colours of the tiger’s skin with the crests looking like tiger paws.

The rowers’ fighting spirit and powerful will are represented by the tiger figurehead in front of their boat.

This artwork Belaian Si Belang is inspired by feelings of love and bravery. It depicts a Malaysian woman in traditional attire coddling a tiger while being surrounded by nature. The tiger is a representation of her strength.

The feeling of fear is replaced by the feelings of love and endearment; hence the word ‘belaian’. The overall soft colours of the artwork serve to bring the viewer’s attention to the tiger in the center and to amplify the feelings of love and endearment.

There is a saying, “To be soft is to be brave". Being soft allows compassion, kindness and love to reign over hatred and fear.

The fire of the T.I.G.E.R lives within our hearts.

In this work, there are three figures in red, yellow, and blue. In colour theory, these are the primary colours that make up the roots of all other colours. This symbolises how, by working together and embracing our differences, we can create powerful energies and endless possibilities. It was our diversity that brought us together in the past to form the Malaysia that we know. It is our diversity that keeps us strong today, and it is our diversity that will give us strength in facing the future.

United we stand, divided we shall fall.

A little spark can kindle a great fire, the TIGER that lives within our hearts.

In our daily life as Malaysians, we witness different elements that make Malaysia unique. The diversity of races, cultures and religions are like the numerous colours clashing into one another.

I was inspired by real-life examples of unifying moments, such as the ethnically rich makeup of Malaysian foods and the final Olympic badminton matches involving Lee Chong Wei. These powerful experiences have been shown to really unify Malaysians despite their many differences.

Dengan Kasih dan Harapan
A MyTIGER Values Tribute to Merdeka and Malaysia 2021

A MyTIGER Values Tribute to Merdeka and Malaysia 2021’.

A MyTIGER Values Tribute to Merdeka and Malaysia 2021

A MyTIGER Values Tribute to Merdeka and Malaysia 2021’.
