eMpowering Youth Across ASEAN

Context

Empowering Youths 4

We aim to equip and inspire young people from around ASEAN to be a positive force for change by providing a platform to learn, contribute and advocate solutions to developmental issues. Given the opportunity, young people can be a driving force in creating positive change in their communities, their nations and the world. The programme will expand horizons and at the same time reinforce Maybank's regional presence in their minds.

The programme is aimed at youth at tertiary institutions to go aboard in Asean to embark on community projects with the aim of creating a sustained and positive impact in the community. If youth are to be tomorrow's business leaders, they will need to show ethical leadership for the future. Maybank Foundation would like to support and inspire the brightest young people in Asean - the business leaders of tomorrow - to come up with solutions to our most pressing problems throught business, particularly social business.

As a leading corporate citizen, Maybank Foundation is taking the opportunity not just to enhance educational aspirations, but also to mould a select group of young people to solve some of society's toughest challenges. Above all, in ensuring that we play a significant role as a catalyst for social change, our aim is to create ethical leaders with a mission.

Strategy

The programme will include mentoring, leadership training, and overseas and local community service projects. It is proposed that the programme start with smaller projects and be scaled up in coming years across the region to become the foremost programme in Southeast Asia for catalysing youth.

As programmes begin to scale up, some of the more promising intitiatives will be incubated toward becoming social enterprises, which will have a longer-term impact on the commuity.

The message is clear: The energy and creativity of youth needs to be channeled into challenging and meaningful activities that strengthen community bonds, encourage volunteerism and philanthropy, and generate innovative solutions to socio-econimic challenges. As the programme expands, we expect an array of interesting community endeavors that will support the building of a cohesive and resillent Asean, one that deepens national identity and regional affinity.
